and beachcombing, families can take in a multitude of attractions, from boat
rides to museums, all on budget. Tour
Beauport, Sleeper-McCann House, the summer home of Henry Davis Sleeper,
an interior designer and collector who began building his retreat in 1907. Today
the house and rooms remain virtually as Sleeper left them with a lifetime collection
that includes period furniture, colored glass, ceramics, hooked rugs and curiosities.
Beauport, owned and operated by Historic New England, is a National Historic Landmark.

Cogswell's Grant, a historic house museum with a renowned collection of
American folk art. This 18th century farmhouse overlooking the Essex River was
the summer home of collectors Bertram and Nina Fletcher Little, and houses their
celebrated collection of American folk art. The rooms are overflowing with primitive
paintings, redware, painted furniture, shaker boxes, hooked rugs, weathervanes
and decoys. Everything is displayed as the family lived with it and shared it
with their friends and fellow collectors. Open Wednesday -Sunday June 1-October
